    This report from the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board describes the interconnections between two streams of activity supporting the health care industry in Pennsylvania: Health Care Industry Partnerships and the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers. Although the strategies have largely been separate, the report identifies ways that the separate but related activities of these independent initiatives influence one another.

    This report is also an excellent example of how a state has aggregated data from multiple partnerships within a single industry of focus.

    The Illinois Workforce Investment Board (IWIB) established the Transportation and Logistics Task Force on December 9, 2005 to develop recommendations for addressing the causes of worker shortages in transportation and logistics as documented in regional reports from the Critical Skill Shortages Initiative (CSSI). The task force was asked to focus on issues that required state level action. The IWIB requested that the task force present findings and recommendations at the September 2006 IWIB meeting.

    This report summarizes the major findings and recommendations of the Transportation and Logistics Task Force. The first section provides background information on the formation of the task force, task force meetings, and the major issues addressed. The second section provides a definition of transportation and logistics and provides some basic facts on the size and importance of the sector in Illinois. This section also highlights the major worker shortages. The final section summarizes the task force findings and recommendations and proposed next steps.

    As part of the first two years of the project, the partners staffed and teamed with members of eleven states participating in the project to develop a framework for analyzing the results of statewide sector strategies. The result of these efforts is an Evaluation Framework for State Sector Strategies, presented in this paper.

    This report documents the range of projects undertaken and the outcomes achieved by 38 WIBs that participated in a 2000 demonstration program funded by the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) of the U.S. Department of Labor determine whether sector-based strategies could be adopted and used effectively by local WIBs.

    The demonstration included 26 formation grantees that received one-year grants (some with three-month extensions) to form stakeholder groups, collect and analyze labor market data, analyze industry opportunities and training capacity, and develop a strategic plan for the selected industry sector. Twelve organizations were awarded 15-month implementation grants (some with 3- or 6-month extensions) to undertake specific sectoral interventions, such as outreach, recruitment, curriculum development, training, and designing career paths for the benefit of individual participants within the context of specific industry/occupational sector needs.
